Host Nation Pair in Form, Mohammad Salameh Guides Jordan to Surprise Win

Delight for the host nation was the order of the day, as matters commenced in the Junior Boys’ Team event at the 2016 Jordan Junior and Cadet Open in Amman on the evening of Tuesday 26th July.

Jordan ‘A’, represented by Nicola Deir and Mohammad Salameh, emerged as the one outfit to cause a surprise as play began; in their opening contest they accounted for third seeded United Arab Emirates pairing of Abdulla Albalooshi and Abdulla Almohaiseni by three matches to one.

Backbone of the Jordanian success was Mohammad Salameh; he accounted for both Abdulla Almohaiseni (11-8, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6) and Abdulla Albalooshi (11-8, 11-7, 13-11); whilst in the third match of the fixture joining forces with Nicola Deir to secure doubles success (7-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-7).

The one win for the United Arab Emirates was recorded by Abdulla Albalooshi; in the opening match of the engagement, he defeated Niola Deir in three straight games (11-1, 11-9, 11-8).

Comprehensive Wins
Defeat for the third seeds against expectations but for the other leading outfits in the Junior Boys’ Team event, there were no such problems; comprehensive were the order of proceedings.

Top seeds, Thailand, with Pattaratorn Passara and Yanapong Panagitgun on duty, accounted for the Jordan ‘B’ Team duo of Ayoub Jaber and Abu Tayeh Riyad by three matches to nil.

A comprehensive victory margin, the score line was replicated by the Chinese Taipei duo of Cai Ruei-Fong and Lai Chi-Chien, the second seeds, as well as by Qatar’s Mohammed Abdulwahhab and Abdulaziz Mohd, the fourth seeds.

Cai Ruei-Fong and Lai Chi-Chien overcame the Egypt ‘B’ Team partnership of Mohamed Abdelkamel and Nadim Ashraf; Mohammed Abdulwahhab and Abdulaziz Mohd beat Pakistan’s Saad Nadeem and Paolo Khayat.

Cadet Boys’ Team
Emphatic opening successes, it was the same for the leading outfits in the Cadet Boys’ Team event with three-nil victory margins being the end result.

Egypt ‘A’ (Marwan Abdelwahab, Omar Allam, Ahmed Elboramy), the top seeds, overcame Jordan ‘C’ (Hamadah Kaswel, Mutaz Al-Sharef); Qatar (Abdulaziz Al-Abdulla, Nawaf Al-Malki) the second seeds, beat Sweden ‘B’ (Love Iwarsson, Linus Keraenen).

Likewise, Egypt ‘D’ (Ziad Elshawa, Karim Ziad, Mohamed Saleh) the third seeds, defeated Egypt ‘E’ (Mohamed El-Sisy, Karim Kenawy), whilst Egypt ‘B’ (Amar Attia, Abdelrahman, Omar El-Safty) accounted for Sweden ‘A’ (Jens Holmqvist, Alexander Printz).

Cadet Girls’ Team
Meanwhile, in the initial fixtures in the Cadet Girls’ Team competition, an event that witnessed three groups in the first phase; it was a successful start for the top three outfits. Similarly, three-nil wins were recorded in each instance.

Chinese Taipei (Tsai Yu-Chin, Chien Tung-Chuan) beat Jordan ‘C’ (Mira Alsaaedeh, Al-khawaldeh Asel); Egypt ‘B’ (Hana Mahmoud, Sarah Swaify) overcame Jordan ‘A’ (Tina Alkhoury, Lima Khater). Similarly, Egypt ‘A’ (Joumana Elkholy, Farah Abdelaal) accounted for Iraq ‘A’ Nabaa Al-Ezairej, Fatemah Al-Najafi).

Junior Girls’ Team
Play in the Junior Girls’ Team event has yet to start.
